A Message from Jenny Douma, RMT

I am super excited that my little sister, Jenny Douma has joined our clinic!  She has been practicing massage therapy for nearly four years and is in my opinion an excellent therapist.

I talked her into writing a little bit about her story for my website blog… so here we go:

Jenny Douma, RMT

I went to school in London at Medix for Massage therapy.  I did a two year condensed course and I graduated with honours in September 2009.

In November of 2009 I opened my first clinic on Wellington Street in Sarnia, Ontario.  I enjoyed the fact that I could accommodate clients with their schedules and I was able to book people so that I had more one on one time with them.

In January of 2013 I applied for a position as a Massage Therapist at a Physiotherapy clinic.  I thought that it would be nice to not have the stress of running my own business hanging over me.  This new place seemed to care about clients, and respect their employees.  I was very excited.

For personal reasons, I left the clinic in August 2013 and asked my sister Karen Childs if I could use a room at her clinic.  She is a Canadian Certified Pedorthist and has been running Tender Touch Orthotics for six years.  She makes truly custom foot orthotics in her 0n-site laboratory. She was very excited to help and told me all I had to do was build a wall, so that I could have a room.

Every family member and friend that we asked for help from graciously did so.  In one day we had a frame up, insulated and the dry wall installed.  Over the next couple of days it was mudded, then all I had to do was sand, prime and paint.  Without the help of family and friends I would still be working on getting the framing up 🙂 This whole situation has reminded me how amazing and powerful relationships can be.

I am very happy where I am at now.  I enjoy working with my sister and mother (who has been Karen’s receptionist since the beginning).  My room is by far the best room I have had.  I am back to spending more time with my clients.

I enjoy the challenge of treating tougher conditions, as well as giving people the relaxation that they so badly need.  I have worked on ages 9-90 and have treated cases such as scoliosis, degenerative disc disease, arthritis, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and general pain.

My goal is to continue being an RMT for many years to come and then one day sharing my knowledge with future generations of therapists

Looking forward to treating you!!
