Frequently Asked Questions
what is a Pedorthist?
A Canadian Certified Pedorthist is the only foot care practitioner trained to manufacture and modify both footwear and orthotics. Pedorthic treatment focuses on:
Providing pain relief for debilitating conditions
Realignment of anatomical structures
Redistribution of external and internal forces
Control of biomechanical function
Accomodation of circulatory special requirements
Enhancement of compromised limb function that is the result of accidents, trauma, congenital deformity, neurological and musculoskeletal disorders
Full biomechanical assessment – Including gait analysis, weight bearing and non-wegith bearing measurements.
Custom foot orthotics
Its important to note that the sale of custom foot orthotics are NOT currently regulated by the government. Unfortunately, this means that anyone can sell orthotics.
For this reason, it is very important that a thorough assessment is done by a fully certified foot and lower limb professional, to ensure your orthotics will be: i) necessary, and ii) truely custom and meeting your needs!
Do Orthotics Hurt?
Your orthotics should NEVER cause you pain or blisters! It is normal for them to feel different initially, this feeling should pass within one to two weeks.
Does Everyone Need Orthotics?
No. Canadian Certified Pedorthists do not believe that everyone needs custom foot orthotics. This is why a thorough assessment is done to determine whether or not a custom device is necessary.
Often a change in footwear, or modified over the counter inserts will provide relief and alleviate symptoms.
